A safe home – also in later life
Most older people wish to live at home for as long as possible. But without the right support and adjustments, a home can become inaccessible and unsafe. Even small repairs can make a big difference – helping to prevent accidents and unnecessary institutional care.

The Finnish Association for the Welfare of Older Adults’ Home Repair Advisory Service provides assessments of housing repair and modification needs, promotes necessary renovations, and assists people over the age of 65 in applying for grants.
The most common home modifications for older people include alterations to bathrooms and other accessibility improvements. In addition, poor condition of structures and systems often creates a general need for renovation..
Home Repair Advisory Service helpline: 09 350 860 13
The helpline is available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The services provided by the home repair advisors are free of charge for clients.
Home Repair Advisory Service supports living at home
The regional home repair advisors of the Finnish Association for the Welfare of Older Adults assist war invalids, veterans, and other older people in assessing necessary home modifications, planning them, and applying for repair grants.
If needed, the advisors also help in finding a contractor to carry out the modifications. The advisory service is free of charge, but clients pay the renovation costs themselves.
